WELCOME TO MASJID AN-NUR

The Mosque is called Masjid an-Nur - “Mosque of Light”. An-Nur is one of the names of Allah ( ) and is a borrowed attribute,
when visible and embued in Allah’s ( ) creation. The ayat an-Nur is beautifully visible on the front wall of the mosque
and is an embodiment of the core pillar of Islam, Tawhid: “The Oneness of Allah”.

ABOUT OUR MOSQUE

This entire project was undertaken to fulfil the growing need, first with intention then a step-by-step programme of action. A building was procured and converted into a mosque and was later purposefully rebuilt as an Islamic Centre with a Jumuah Mosque at its core.

THE EBRAHIM FAMILY

The Ebrahim family’s vision and determination has led to the establishment of the Ismail and Mariam Ebrahim Islamic Centre which serves as a jumu’ah mosque, an educational centre and a focus for Muslims who live in Hermanus and those who visit this beautiful town.

THE DESIGN

The design is inspired and drawn from Islamic calligraphy motifs.

The architecture for the refurbishment of the Islamic Centre was inspired by the community and its setting in this beautiful coastal town of Hermanus.
